Ingredients For julia child's meat loaf

  • 2 c
    minced onions
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 c
    pressed-down bread crumbs
  • 2 lb
    ground beef chuck
  • 1 lb
    raw ground turkey
  • 1 c
    cooked rice (see note)
  • 2 lg
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    beef or chicken stock
  • 2/3 c
    grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 clove
    garlic - minced
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    black pepper
  • 2 tsp
    thyme
  • 2 tsp
    paprika
  • 1 tsp
    allspice
  • 1 tsp
    oregano
  • 3
    bay leaves
  • 1 c
    ketchup

How To Make julia child's meat loaf

    Saute the onions in the butter until lightly caramelized.

    Add onions and remaining ingredients except bay leaves and ketchup into a large bowl.

    Mix with your hands until everything is incorporated then form into a loaf on a sheet pan or in a loaf pan.

    Top with the bay leaves and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes then top with the ketchup.

    Continue baking until a meat thermometer says 155 degrees.

    Allow to rest for 20 minutes before serving.

    NOTE: You can substitute ground pork or sausage for the turkey, just eliminate the cooked rice from the recipe.
