My mom grew up in Brooklyn, NY. These onions are just like the red saucy ones slathered all over the dogs sold on the boardwalk! SO GOOD! Thanks for your recipe, Mom!

Ingredients For pat 's coney island-style hot dog onions

  • 3
    sweet onion, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 3
    garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/3 c
    ketchup
  • 1/4 tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp
    red pepper flakes
  • 1 Tbsp
    paprika
  • 1/4 c
    vinegar
  • salt

How To Make pat 's coney island-style hot dog onions

    Saute onions in oil til tender. Add ketchup, cayenne, red pepper and paprika.

    Simmer over low heat about 15 minutes, uncovered. Add vinegar and simmer about 45 minutes. Add salt to taste.
