This was a favorite when the kids were growing up.....and it still is!! And the kids learned a little German on top of it!!

Ingredients For mach schnell sauerbraten

  • 1 1/2 lb
    ground round
  • 2 Tbsp
    fine, dry bread crumbs
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • butter or margarine
  • 1 sm
    onion, sliced
  • 1 can
    (11 3/4 oz.) beef gravy
  • 1 Tbsp
    white vinegar
  • 1/8 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • dash of cloves
  • freshly ground pepper and salt to taste

How To Make mach schnell sauerbraten

  • 1
    Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, 1 teas. salt and 1/4 teas. pepper. Form into 6 patties.

    Brown well on both sides in butter or margarine in large frying pan with lid. Remove from pan and keep warm.

    In pan, saute onions until golden. Add gravy, vinegar and spices. Stir well and bring to a boil. Return beef patties to mixture. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, basting occasionally.

    Split english muffins; toast and butter. Place patties on muffin halves, spoon gravy over patties. Serve remaining muffins on the side.
