Grew up on these, stole the recipe from my Gran n added to it, she grew up thru the depression n war on these. the capsicum n sweet chilli sauce is optional for a bit more taste to them. Great camp food, as youngens all we took camping was a sack of spuds, sack of onions, s n p n oil, would catch the fish along the way. Any type of fish will do, even seen my ole Gran make them with sprats (herring) and spikeys ( spiny dog fish ). Cooks well on a bbq. Great with a fresh salad or as a burger pattie. Complete meal.

Ingredients For fish cakes

  • 500 g
    fish
  • 5
    medium potatoes
  • 1
    onion
  • 1
    sprig parsley
  • 1 Tbsp
    capsicum
  • 1 Tbsp
    sweet chilli sauce
  • pinch
    pepper
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 50 ml
    oil

How To Make fish cakes

    Boil fish, remove use able flesh discard rest. Peel chop boil then mash spuds. VERY finely chop onion n capsicum. Finely chop parsley. Combine all ingredients ( except oil) mold into patties of desired size. Fry or bbq till outside browned with a little oil each batch, similar to fried mashed spud.

    Best cooked once mix has cooled n dried a little.
