I swear this is a real recipe that is in my Lone Star Legacy cookbook. Never having used it, I can't vouch for the taste (engine oil and road dirt, yuk) but here it is as promised, Jane. Picture courtesy of the internet

  • 1
Brush chieken halves liberally with melted butter and garlic powder Season with salt, pepper and paprika Carefully pad with wads of foil any areas where bones might puncture the foil covering Wrap securely with several layers of heavy duty aluminum foil, reversing the seam each wrap. Try to wrap to match the shape of the mainfold The packages shoul be tied onto the manifold with coated wire to prevent the wire from cutting the foil.

You can figure that 100 miles of manifold cooking based on an average speed of 50-55 mph is equal to an hour in your home oven at 300º to 325º. In most cases, you should turn the package about halway through the cooking period being careful not to puncture the foil. Ta-da.
