If you'll pick up any cookbook, you'll see that some recipes have interesting names. Some recipes have titles that are quite humorous and innovative. It's always fun to read the recipes to try to figure out how and why the recipe was given the name it has. This recipe is for "Shipwreck Casserole", I'm not sure why it's called this! The only reason I can come up with is that all the ingredients are piled on top of each other, much like the wreckage from a shipwreck would be. But, I'd like to assure you that while the title has a negative connotation, the dish itself is very good

Ingredients For shipwreck casserole

  • 3-6 md
    potatoes
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 md
    onion
  • 1 can
    tomato soup
  • 1 lb
    hamburger
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 can
    (15 oz) kidney beans

How To Make shipwreck casserole

    Brown the ground beef and drain the fat Slice potatoes into greased casserole dish, crumble hamburger on top. Sprinkle on half the amount of salt and pepper.

    Slice onion and spread evenly over hamburger. Spread kidney beans evenly over onions.

    Cover all with undiluted tomato soup and add remaining amount of salt and pepper. Cover dish and bake at 250 F for 1 1/2 hours or until potatoes and onions test done.
