Spoon Burgers were popular back in the 30’s during the days of the Depression. This is a simple supper and easy on the ol’ grocery budget. It was actually a delicious, filling meal!

Ingredients For spoonburgers

  • 3 lb
    chuck, cut into 3/4 inch cubes
  • 1 1/2 c
    water
  • 1 Tbsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    oil
  • 1 c
    chopped onions
  • 2 clove
    garlic, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    paprika
  • 1 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1/3 c
    vinegar
  • 1/3 c
    dark molasses
  • 1/4 c
    worcestershire sauce
  • 2 can
    (6 oz) tomato paste

How To Make spoonburgers

  • 1
    Combine beef, water, and salt. Simmer covered, until tender.
  • 2
    Saute' onion and garlic in oil; add vegetables to oil. Add sugar and remaining ingredients to beef.

    Cover and simmer for about one hour or until sauce is thick and beef is very tender.
