This is a sicilian steak that we have had in my family for ages. Everyone makes them different by changing up the cheeses. My favorite way is to make it with parmesan.

Ingredients For simply spidini

  • 15
    pieces eye round sandwich steak
  • 1/4 c
    extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 c
    italian bread crumbs
  • 1
    sweet onion cut length wise
  • 1 can
    plum tomatoes, drained
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 1/2 stick
    butter
  • 15
    small pieces parmesan cheese, cut from block
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper

How To Make simply spidini

  • 1
    Pre heat oven to 375 degrees. Cover steaks in oilive oil and dip in bread crumbs. Set aside.

    In a large skillet melt 1 stick of butter and sautee onions. Add sugar, salt and pepper and mix well. When onions are cooked throughly add tomamtoes.

    On a piece of steak, add a teaspoon of onion mixture and piece of parmesan and roll.

    Repeat each step and place in a deep baking dish. Add drops of remaining butter in the baking dish and cover with foil.

    Bake for 45 min or until steak is cooked through.
