My husband told me about this recipe. His mother made this for him when times were tough and money was tight. My husband and his mother lived alone in a big two story house in Lake City SC. The rent there was $60 dollars a month. His mother was a meat wrapper at a local grocery store, and was a hard working woman. She would take this recipe and make enough for awhile and they would eat off of it for a few days. He loved this so much that he taught me how to make it. I told him that I was not going to eat that! Well, it finished cooking and he stuck a spoonfull of it in my mouth, it was GREAT!
