This steak topping is so good! The recipe came from my Dad. I add some fresh basil and use olive oil when I make it now. Its simple to make and can be used with a less expensive cut of meat to make a special occasion dish.

Ingredients For fresh mushroom cream sauce for steak

  • 1 Tbsp
    vegetable oil (or olive oil)
  • 1 lb
    mixed fresh mushrooms of your choice
  • 1
    small sweet onion, finely sliced
  • 1/2 c
    beef bouillon or beef broth
  • 1/2 c
    heavy cream
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 c
    chopped fresh basil, optional

How To Make fresh mushroom cream sauce for steak

    Heat oil in a medium skillet. Add mushrooms and onions and cook for about 3-4 minutes, stirring. Add broth and cream and just bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Add basil, if using, and pepper to taste. Simmer until slightly thickened (just 3 or 4 minutes). Serve over grilled or broiled steak.
