Espresso Sodas are quite popular in Manhattan (New York), and there are dozens of different variations of the drink. Bottled Espresso Soda can be found in a variety of stores and delis. But they're so easy to make at home, so there's not reason not to try. It's best to make in batches though, which not only reduces the labor if you want more than one, but it also allows the flavors to fully blend together while it's chilling. The quantities for a single serving are: 1/4 cup sugar 1/2 to 1 Tbsp espresso beans, coarsely ground 1 shot coffee liqueur 1 shot vodka 1 shot club soda

Ingredients For espresso coffee soda

  • FOR A LARGE BATCH (8 SERVINGS):
  • 2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 2 c
    water
  • 1/4 c
    espresso beans, freshly crushed or coarsely ground
  • ice cubes
  • 8
    shots coffee-flavored liqueur (kahlua or tia maria), well chilled
  • 8
    shots vodka, well chilled
  • 8 c
    club soda, well chilled

How To Make espresso coffee soda

    Combine the sugar and water in a medium saucepan, bring to a boil over high heat and cook until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 2 minutes. Remove from the heat, add the espresso beans, and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.

    Strain, cover and refrigerate until very cold, at least 2 hours.

    To make the sodas: Fill 8 tall glasses with ice cubes. Add about 1/4 cup of the espresso syrup to each glass. If desired, add a shot of coffee liqueur and vodka, and stir well.

    Fill with about a cup of club soda, and serve each soda with a straw.
