My Great Grandma Charlotte Kennedy's recipe, given to her daughter Mabel Kennedy Sullivan, and given to me Colleen Sullivan Sowa. Originally this was baked in a wood stove, it has been adapted to gas and electric stoves over the years. I love the measurement of "the size of an egg" for the butter! This very old recipe is also very good! Baked puddings were how most puddings were done years ago, and they ate it as a meal, side dish and for dessert...

Ingredients For great great great grandma's rice pudding

  • 3 c
    rice
  • 3 qt
    milk
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • butter the size of an egg
  • OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS
  • 4 lg
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • extra sugar or cinnamon sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    vanilla or almond extract

How To Make great great great grandma's rice pudding

    Put all ingredients into a large baking pan. Stir all together. Bake in medium oven (350 degrees) for about an hour. Until rice is done and it is creamy.

    *** You can add cinnamon, raisins,and vanilla if you like. *** Serve warm with some butter on it if you like.
