My grandmother's aunt used to make this recipe many years ago. My grandmother got one as a gift when she gave birth to her eldest son back in 1965. This a personal favorite-and so quick and easy to fix. My aunt's children do not ever remember their mother using a formal recipe to make this pie with, but my grandmother told me that Louise taught her to make it using the ingredients listed here. Imagine their surprise when I passed their mother's recipe to them!

In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, flour and cocoa. You can either mix it or sift into the pot. Beat egg and stir into cocoa mixture. Add vanilla and milk. Cook, over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened. YOU MUST stir until it is thickened or it will burn on you. When you stir until you think your arms will fall off, that is when the filling is done. Remove from heat and pour into pie crust. You can serve this with a meringue or Cool Whip, if desired. Allow this pie to sit overnight, for the best flavor.
