Growing up my mother would buy Sarah Lee's Banana Cake in a foil pan from the freezer section. This recipe tastes just like it!

Ingredients For frosted banana bars

  • 1/2 c
    butter -softened
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 c
    (8 oz) sour cream
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 2
    medium, ripe bananas mashed = about 1 cup
  • FROSTING
  • 1 pkg
    8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 1/2 c
    butter softened
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 3 3/4 - 4 c
    powdered sugar

How To Make frosted banana bars

    In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stire in bananas. Spread into a greased jelly roll pan - 15 x 10 x 1. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a rack.

    For Frosting: in a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla extract. Gradually beat in enough powdered sugar to achieve desired consistency. When bars are cool frost. Store in refridgerator.
