Everyone loves Chess Pie. It makes you understand the source of the phrase sugar pie as an endearment. It also packs a whopping 350 calories in 1/8 of a pie - so eat sparingly.

  • 4
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    cornmeal
  • 1 pinch
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    melted butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    cream or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1
    unbaked pie shell

How To Make southern living's never-fail chess pie

    Combine everything (except pie shell) and blend thoroughly.

    Pour into unbaked pie shell.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done. My oven usually runs low so I'll go as long as 45 minutes sometimes. The center of the pie should puff up but still be moist. It will sink and crackle as it cools.
