Ingredients For old fashioned apple dowdy

8 thin slices day old bread

4 tablespoons butter

6 cups sliced apples

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons light molasses
-
1/2 cup water
- CINNAMON SUGAR

2 tablespoons white sugar
-
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
How To Make old fashioned apple dowdy

1Trim crusts from bread slices; butter each slice .

2Line 1-1/2 quart baking dish with bread, cutting to fit. Save enough bread for the top.

3Fill dish with apple slices

4Combine nutmeg, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, salt, brown sugar, molasses and water, pour over apples.

5Top with remaining bread slices, buttered side up.

6Cover, bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove cover - combined the 2 Tablespoons white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Sprinkle over top

7Bake for 20 more minute uncovered or until golden brown. Serve hot with whipped cream.
