I remember my mom making these as I was growing up...I never could get enough of these. This is a hard to find recipe.

Ingredients For oldfashioned fig bars

  • FIG MIXTURE
  • 2 lb
    figs (3c) fully ripe
  • 2 Tbsp
    lemon juice concentrate
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • TOPPING / BOTTOM
  • 3/4 c
    butter softened
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1 3/4 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 1/2 c
    oats
  • 1/4 c
    coconut

How To Make oldfashioned fig bars

    Preheat oven to 400* Remove stems and blossom ends, coarsely chop place in sauce pan. Add lemon juice and sugar. Stir well and cook over medium heat, stirring often till reduced to 2 cups. Remove from heat and let cool.

    In large bowl cream butter and brown sugar. In another bowl stir flour, baking soda, salt. Add to creamed mixture; blend well, stir in oats and coconut. Spread 1/2 Oat mixture into bottom of 9x13 inch baking pan. Spread Fig mixture on top. Top evenly with remainder of Oat mixture. Pat down lightly. Bake 20 to25 minutes until lightly brown, let cool on rack. Cut into bars.............
