My grandmother used to make these cookies for us when were kids. They were so very delicious and we always loved them.

Ingredients For grandma's oatmeal cookies

  • 2 c
    crisco shortening
  • 1 lb
    light brown sugar
  • 2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 4 lg
    eggs
  • 3 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    salt
  • 2 Tbsp
    baking soda
  • 6 c
    instant oatmeal
  • 1 1/2 c
    flaked coconut
  • ICING
  • 5 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1 c
    crisco
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    vanilla

How To Make grandma's oatmeal cookies

    Cream Crisco and sugar together until fluffy, stir in vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each one. Stir in flour, salt and soda and add to cream mixture. Stir in oatmeal, coconut and 1 Tbsp. vanilla and mix well. Drop by teaspoons about 2 “ apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 15 minutes at 350. Cool.

    Place flour in saucepan and add enough milk to make a smooth paste. Add remaining milk and cook, stirring until thick. Cool. Cream Crisco, sugar, salt and vanilla until light and fluffy, slowly add flour mixture, beating until light and fluffy.
