My grandmother made these brownies many times, they freeze well and ship well in care packages for college students, which many of my cousins enjoyed while away from home at college. Because of recent dairy allergies we found that 7/8 c. of oil may be used instead of butter with no problems, they come out just as yummy! One of my favorite changes is to exchange peanut butter chips for chocolate chips.
