My Grandpa ALWAYS has these on hand for company, and they are everything a chocolate chip cookie should be. He got the recipe from Family Circle's Election Bake Off. The pecans are my addition, and I never make them without. They were the favorite "American food" that my Japanese sister-in-law tried when she was here. :) My 2nd mom told me when giving me cooking lessons that a little bit of salt makes sweet things taste sweeter, and I think that is true with these cookies.

How To Make famous family oatmeal chocolate chip cookies

  • 1
Cream first 5 ingredients with electric mixer.
  • 2
Mix dry ingredients, then add to creamed ingredients. Combine well. (My lazy secret: whenever a recipe says to cream butter/sugar/eggs, then mix dry ingredients separately before adding, I do this: Add those dry ingredients that need to be mixed really well, like salt & baking soda/powder, straight to the creamed mixture before adding the flour. Use the mixer to blend them in all throughout really well, THEN mix in the flour. It hasn't messed anything up for me yet, and it saves me a bowl.)
  • 3
Stir in oats, then chocolate chips and pecans with a wooden spoon.
  • 4
Make cookies by rounded teaspoonfuls. Bake at 350 degrees F, 8-10 min. Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes, then on a cooling rack.
