These orginally came from a late 1950's Pillsbury cookbook. They may have a "proper" name, but I don't know what it is. I have called them "Black Cookies" since I was little because they are dark and fudgy!

Ingredients For black cookies

  • 1/3 c
    butter or margerine
  • 3
    squares unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 1 1/2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    salted cashew nuts

How To Make black cookies

    Set oven for 350 degrees. Melt shortning and chocolate in a double boiler, over low heat till thoroughly melted, or in a medium microwave safe bowl for 3-4 minutes on medium high heat.

    Stir in the sugar, beat in each egg after adding, beating well. Blend in flour and cashews. Chill dough overnight.

    Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on a lightly greased cookie sheet. When finished baking, allow to cool on wire racks. Enjoy slightly warm with a cold glass of milk!
