As you can see, I have two (2) names for this dessert. Natives call it Syrup Pudding. Other nationalities call it Molasses Cake. The flavor resembles a moist, ginger snap cookie. Once again the recipe was passed down from generation to generation. This is one recipe that is good anytime of year, but it is delicious in cold weather with coffee, hot tea, hot apple cider, or even a cold glass of milk. DELISH!!!

Ingredients For syrup (molasses cake) pudding

  • 1/2 c
    butter or margarine
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 c
    black molasses
  • 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • 2 c
    self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    ground ginger

How To Make syrup (molasses cake) pudding

    Spray cake pan with pam.(8x8, 9x9, 9x12) Set pan aside until needed.

    Mix together all dry ingredients. Set bowl aside.

    Mix all wet ingredients together. Add dry ingredients slowly, mixing together slowly on 1st speed of mixer, after about a minute move up to medium speed for about another minute.

    Pour batter into pan

    Preheat oven to 325 or 350 degrees depending if the pan is coated with dark or light colored pan. Bake and check doness by inserting a wooden toothpick and it comes out clean.
