to keep the baby's gender a mystery until everyone takes a bite, fill cupcakes with gender specific frosting before you decorate them: prepare an extra batch of vanilla frosting and tinted blue for boys or pink for girls with food coloring gel. Put it in a zip top plastic freezer bag dip about 1/4 inch from one corner. Insert the end of the wooden spoon or dowel into the center of each cooled cupcake to make a hole. Insert the bag into each hole and squeeze gently until filling comes to the top. Pipe a question mark on top of some of the cupcakes and let the cupcakes reveal the gender.unknown

  • one recipe of your favorite cupcake flavor, store bought or homemade
  • one recipe vanilla frosting, recipe follows
  • pink and blue food coloring gel
  • white sprinkles, candy baby shower decorations.

How To Make oh, baby! cupcakes

    Prepare cupcakes as directed, using your favorite flavor or store-bought mix.

    Divide frosting between two bowls. Using food coloring gels, tint one bowl of frosting pale pink and one bowl of frosting pale blue, stirring until blended. Frost 12 cupcakes pink and 12 cupcakes blue. Roll edges of frosted cupcakes in tiny white sprinkles. Top with candy baby shower decorations such as onesies, baby faces, and baby booties. Makes 24 cupcakes

    Vanilla frosting: 1/2 cup butter, softened 3 to 4 tablespoons whipping cream 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract 1/8 teaspoons salt one package powdered sugar, 16 ounces Beat the first four ingredients at medium speed with electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating at low speed until blended. Beat at high speed two minutes or till creamy. For vanilla Bean frosting, substitute 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste for the vanilla extract. Makes 3 cups
