I got this recipe from a friend that was a teacher. This was a favorite with everyone when this was the dessert in the cafeteria at her school. Its just too darned good not to share.

Ingredients For cowboy bread (its a cake)

  • 2 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    butter
  • 1 Tbsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 2 c
    buttermilk
  • 3
    eggs

How To Make cowboy bread (its a cake)

  • 1
    blend flour, br. sugar salt and butter til it resembles crumbs. Reserve 1 cup crumbs for topping.

    mix all the rest of ingredents into remaining flour misture until blended well

    spray or greese a full cookie sheet, with sides of course. pour mixture into cookie sheet and spread the reserved crumbs over the top of mixture evenly.

    bake for approx 20 minutes til done. do NOT remove from pan! eat it warm or hot. if it gets covered the crumbs doesnt stay crunchy, but still good.
