This is a brownie that my Grandma made while we were all growing up. It is a family favorite.

Ingredients For chipper-date brownies

  • 8 oz
    pkg. pitted chopped dates
  • 1 c
    boiling water
  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 c
    sifted flour
  • 1/4 c
    baking cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    chopped nuts
  • 6 oz
    pkg. chocolate chips

How To Make chipper-date brownies

  • 1
    Combine dates and water and stir. Cool to room temperature. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in date mixture. Add sifted dry ingredients, mixing well. Pour into a 13x9 inch prepared pan. Sprinkle with nuts and then the chocolate chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. You can also use a smaller pan to make a thicker brownie
