buttermilk pound cake

This is my favorite pound cake recipe. My Mother and husband always look forward to me baking this cake. I would have posted a photo, however I failed to wait long enough to take it out of the pan and the top stuck to the pan. Not a pretty sight, but still delicious to eat!

Ingredients For buttermilk pound cake

  • 1 c
    butter (do not substitute anything else)
  • 3 c
    sugar
  • 4
    eggs
  • 3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • confectioners' sugar

How To Make buttermilk pound cake

    Make certain that butter and eggs are at room temperature.

    In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.

    Combine flour, salt and baking soda; add alternately with buttermilk and beat well.
  • 4
    Pour into a well greased and floured tube or bundt pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool in pan for 15 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Sprinkle top with confectioners' sugar.
