Ingredients For burnt sugar cake

  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2
    egg yolks
  • 1 c
    water
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 tsp
    burnt sugar*
  • 1/2 c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2
    well beaten egg whites
  • 1/2 c
    boiling water

How To Make burnt sugar cake

    *Burnt Sugar Syrup Melt ½ cup sugar in skillet over medium high heat, until the sugar softens and melts and finally begins to throw off intense smoke. ( It really must burn). Have ready 1/2 cup of boiling water. Remove from the heat and pour in the boiling water quickly, allowing it to boil until you have molasses like syrup. Return to low heat, simmer and stir until smooth. Set aside to cool to room temperature. This is sufficient for three cakes.

    Burnt Sugar Cake Beat together well first 7 ingredients. Add 1/2 cup flour, two teaspoons baking powder: mix well. Lastly fold in two well beaten egg whites.

    Pour into 9 x 13 inch pan or two 8-inch layer cake pans and bake in 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Frost with your favorite icing.
