hearty waffles

When my kids were growing up we had waffles every Saturday morning. Their friends knew this and loved the tradition! I came across this recipe years ago in a newspaper and it's a substantial waffle. I prefer powder sugar and lots of butter on them but others might like syrup. Serve with fruit and you have a filling meal! They freeze great and are a healthier alternative to the plain frozen waffles most people buy and eat. If you use whole oats they have more texture but quick oats are a little less substantial.
