I learned how to do this quick and easy recipe a year ago. When I attend the Scottish Highland Games in Jacksonville or Orlando, or wherever they are, I make it a point to eat one of these delicious Scotch Eggs! Yummy!

Ingredients For traditional scotch eggs

  • 1 lb
    sausage
  • 6
    eggs, hard boiled
  • 1 c
    flour for rolling eggs
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 2 c
    bread crumbs
  • oil for frying
  • deep frying pan

How To Make traditional scotch eggs

  • 1
First, hard-boil the eggs. Then in individual bowls/dishes, put flour, beaten eggs, and bread crumbs. This makes it easier to dip and roll the Scotch eggs.
  • 2
Put flour on your hands so the sausage from stick to them. Take enough sausage to roll into a ball that can encase the hard-boiled egg. Dust the gg w/flour first, then wrap the sausage around the egg. Seal the edges together.
  • 3
Roll the ball in the beaten egg bowl, then roll in breadcrumbs, while the oil is heating in a deep fryer.
  • 4
When the oil reaches 360 degrees, very gently and carefully, lower the sausage wrapped egg into the oil. Fry for 5-6 minutes or until the sausage turns a golden brown. Remove and cool on paper towels. If you cut the ball in half, you'll see a beautiful hard-boiled egg, surrounded by sausage. It's a very hearty breakfast.
