Challah bread makes the best French toast. A little bread, some eggs and milk and in no time you have a delicious breakfast. Challah is a rich, braided bread made with eggs.

Ingredients For challah french toast

    1/2 inch slices challah bread, day old
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 2
    eggs
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tsp
    honey (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    grated orange zest (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp
    vanilla (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp
    unsalted butter
  • 1 Tbsp
    oil

How To Make challah french toast

    Whisk eggs and milk. Add orange zest, honey and vanilla. Add salt and cinnamon.

    Soak bread slices for 5-6 minutes, turning once. Remove the soaked bread to a rack suspended over a cookie sheet (to catch drippings) and let it sit for a couple of minutes to fully absorb all the liquid (optional).

    Melt unsalted butter and oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the bread and cook 2-3 minutes on each side. Can remove the slices to a rack over a cookie sheet and place in 350 degree oven for 5 minutes to make sure the soaked bread is well cooked all the way through (optional).
