My Mom taught me how to make Hot Water Cornbread when I was ten years old. I love being in the kitchen with her. This is awesome with collard greens, cabbage, beans, and so forth. Only drawback making 100+ for big family dinners LOL I hope you enjoy them!!!

Ingredients For lynnepoo's hot water cornbread

  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    hot water

How To Make lynnepoo's hot water cornbread

    Mix flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, & salt in medium size bowl. Then add beaten egg.

    Gradually pour the hot water in the mixture ( you can add more or less hot water to your liking you judge the consistency)

    Pour oil to a depth of 1/2 inch in a large skillet and heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Let's eat!!!

    Shape cornmeal mixture into flattened balls using a heaping tablespoon as a measuring guide or spoon it right in. Fry each in hot oil, turning once, until crisp and golden brown, about 5 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
