    white sugar

    level tablespoon lard
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 c
    buttermilk
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 4 c
    all purpose flour
  • lard to fry in

    Heat oil to about 375 degrees.

    Beat egg until lemon colored.

    Add sugar to the beaten egg, beat until smooth.

    Alternately add the dry ingredients and the buttermilk.

    Roll out to desired thickness, add a little flour as you roll.

    Cut out and fry in hot lard until golden brown, usually about three minutes on each side.
