I didn't realize how many of my Mom's recipes I had until I started putting them in my cookbook. This was another holiday favorite.

Ingredients For banana nut bread

  • 1/4 c
    crisco shortening (melted)
  • 1/2 c
    sugar (plus a lttle tad)
  • 1 lg
    well beaten egg
  • 2 Tbsp
    water
  • 1-1/2 c
    mashed bananas
  • 1-1/2 c
    sifted flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 c
    chopped nuts (pecans)

How To Make banana nut bread

  • 1
    In a large bowl cream melted shortening & sugar; add egg and mix well. In another bowl combine water and bananas. In another bowl combine all dry ingredients.

    Alternating with dry mixture and banana mixture add into the cream mixture. Mix thoroughly after each addition.

    Add vanilla and nuts; pour into flour & greased loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour; or less watch to make sure you don't over bake.
