This old recipe by Myma is from an old recipe card found at an estate sale recipe collection box. There are many different ways to use this dough- in the same way you would use any raised bread dough.

Ingredients For overnight ice box roll's-1930

  • 1/2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    shortening( I use Crisco plain or butter flavor)
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    scalded milk
  • 1 lg
    beaten egg
  • 1
    cake or 1 active dry yeast packet
  • 1/2 c
    lukewarm water
  • 3 to 3 1/2 c
    all purpose flour, unsifted

How To Make overnight ice box roll's-1930

    Place shortening, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Pour scalded milk over and mix well,until salt and sugar dissolve. Let cool.

    Add yeast to the 1/2 cup of lukewarm water and let stand until cool. Add egg and yeast to the cooled shortening mixture, blending well.

    Add flour and beat until well mixed with a wooden spoon. Place dough into a greased bowl. Cover. Place in ice box(refrigerator) overnight or longer. When ready to make, shape and let rise 2 hours. Bake 12 minutes at 375^ for rolls; or 50 minutes in 400^ oven for bread loaf. Remover both from pan immediately after removing from oven and cool on wire rack. Brush tops with butter while warm.
