Ingredients For grandmother's buttermilk cornbread

  • 1/2 c
    butter, melted
  • 2/3 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    cornmeal
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt

How To Make grandmother's buttermilk cornbread

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 8 inch square pan.

    In bowl, add melted butter and sugar. Mix. Quickly add eggs and beat until well blended. Combine buttermilk with baking soda and stir into mixture in bowl. In a seperate bowl, add cornmeal, flour and salt and mix well. Add dry to wet and mix until well blended and a few lumps remain. Pour batter into prepared pan.

    Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center, comes out clean.
