This is another recipe from my Nana Kathleens note book. In the 1930's 40,s and even the 50's . Guinness Stout as well as a drink was used as a medicine!!! It was very strong in iron .Truly it was put into everything, doctors recommended it to pregnant and nursing mothers to increase their iron intake. If you were run down you took it as a tonic. It was put into bread, cakes, everything. My nana like to make brown bread with it. She made it every week well into her eighties. If I was unwell when ever I visited her she would say have a slice of bread "for what ails you"..I still love making it
