These are a cross between a biscuit and a scone. You can split one in half to use for a sandwich or just serve by itself with jam.

Ingredients For williamsburg buns

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    currants or raisins
  • 2 Tbsp
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp
    sherry

How To Make williamsburg buns

  • 1
    Combine flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, currants or raisins and sugar in a bowl.

    Combine buttermilk and sherry in a measuring cup. Pour into flour mixture. Gently mix with hands into a soft dough.

    Press dough onto a lightly floured board. Shape into a 1/2 inch rectangle. Cut dough into rounds or squares. Place on a baking sheet that has been lightly greased.

    Bake for 14 to 18 minutes at 375 degrees until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
