This is yet another of the recipes taken from old recipe cards that were given to my mum when she married in 1942. This one presumes / assumes you would know what oven temp to use and how long to bake them. So the baking time I have shown is just a guess. "Top milk" would be 3.5% milk or close to light cream. I'm old enough to remember when milk was delivered in glass bottles that had a little bulbous shape at the top where this richer milk gathered.

Ingredients For scones

  • 2 c
    tea bisk
  • 3 Tbsp
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    top milk
  • 1/2 c
    raisins
  • 1/2 c
    mixed peel (optional)

How To Make scones

  • 1
    Form into two round cakes.
  • 2
    Mark into sixths.
  • 3
    That's it....those are the two recipe directions in my grandmother's spidery handwriting!
