Group active since Sat, May 14, 2011

The variety of recipes being included come from many cultures, not just Portuguese and American, so I have made a change in the group name to reflect these. There are many countries represented here. I welcome all to share their family favorites and any background information to go with the recipes. Join us!

Yahoo! I see we have a new member, welcome Jill!

When you have a chance to view the recipes, let us know if you can add to our list. It is fun to learn from everyone and find out about their interests, and we welcome any questions or information. I live where there are many families of Portuguese origin, and although I have no relatives who are Portuguese, I love the ingredients and things I've tried. Thank you and have fun!

Memorial Day weekend and REMEMBRANCE.

A special time for all Americans. Bonnie Dare has posted a prayer that is appropriate. I am printing it and saving it, and sharing it at church this morning.

I had a step-father who served in World War II, and two brothers who were in the Navy and flew during the mid-late sixties, during the Vietnam War. So I hold them up in prayer today, both the living and the dead, and I salute those serving for our sake where-ever they may be stationed. Thanks to all of those brave and loyal people, and their families who are facing each day without them nearby.

Glad to see another member, welcome Karen!

I am so pleased you're joining this group Karen, and I hope you'll enjoy viewing the recipes, trying some and adding any you have to the list.

This little group is composed of people from the Atlantic to the Pacific! I love meeting you all and I am fascinated by the locations where everyone lives!

You may have Portuguese family, friends or neighbors who have shared their recipes, and you just might love the food. So join in and let's have a taste of Portugal.

Welcome Robin, I am glad you've joined this group!

When someone appears on JAP, in a group I view, I love to look at their hometown and state, and see what kind of recipes they posted. You're recipe box contains some really nice recipes! I love the sound of them, and I'll want to try some that's for sure. We hope you'll enjoy this group.

Homemade wine vs. the special valuable kind!

Thank you Juliann for letting me list it with this group. I will be trying this one soon Poached Shrimp, Camarones al Vapor Lento

We were spending a weekend with two other couples,at New Year's time many years ago,and stopped in to visit with a fourth couple. Our host went to his "wine cellar" and brought out "a very old and dusty bottle of wine, and described it to us,saying it was special". We did all enjoy the wine and we shared our comments. At the end of that weekend, three of the couples returned to the home of the Portuguese couple's home, and the husband invited us in and offered us wine. He got out this large glass jug from under his kitchen counter, and poured each of us a drink; explaining that "it was home-made". We all sipped it, and remarked "this is amazing, just as good as the special and old wine we had the day before!" It was about $12.00 a jug vs.$$$.

I'm concerned about the people in Joplin, Missouri.

When I heard a few minutes ago there were 116 lives lost, and six miles of devastation! Keeping them in my prayers.

Tia, I love the sound of the word, I believe it means Aunt.

The weather is slowly improving here in the N.E. It's very damp lately, we need more sunshine. However the news reports of tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri are so worrisome. I'm keeping residents of that area in my prayers. All those other areas that incur tornadoes are also in my thoughts and prayers.

If you have any interest in Portuguese food, I hope you'll join this group. Pictures and recipes are desired. Share your experiences of the culture and the food.
