You know warmer weather is approaching when strawberries first make their appearance at the market. They’re great in jams, salsa, salad and, my favorite, dessert.<\/p>\n

Strawberry shortcake is a popular treat and if you’re looking for a new recipe, try Sherry Wilkins<\/a><\/strong> (Cabot, AR<\/a><\/strong>) My Favorite Strawberry Shortcake<\/a><\/strong> recipe. It’s lightly sweet and showcases the berries perfectly. For this post, though, I thought I’d share some of my favorite strawberry recipes that go beyond a shortcake.<\/p>\n

“Lee and I went to the farmer’s market last weekend and bought a bunch of fresh strawberries,” explains Cassie Thornburg<\/a><\/strong> (Anaheim, CA<\/a><\/strong>). “Knowing we wouldn’t be able to finish them before they go bad, I thought I’d make a strawberry tart. However, I didn’t want all the fat and calories of the delicious cream that goes under the fruit in a fresh fruit tart.”<\/p>\n

The result? A delicious Roasted Strawberry Tart<\/a><\/strong>. The key to the tart is the hint of balsamic vinegar. It adds a bit of tartness to complement the sweet strawberries. Serve with a dollop of homemade whipped cream and you have a delicious dessert.<\/p>\n

Lindsay V.’s<\/a><\/strong> Strawberry Cupcakes with Strawberry Buttercream<\/a><\/strong> are bursting with strawberry flavor. The cake seems a bit thick when mixed, but bakes up light, fluffy and with just enough strawberry flavor without being overly sweet. The strawberry buttercream is rich, creamy and tops the cupcakes perfectly. <\/p>\n

As Lindsay suggests these are “perfect for a little girl’s birthday party, themed baby showers, a party celebrating 80’s cartoons like Strawberry Shortcake, etc.” They’re so good you’ll be finding an excuse to make this strawberry cupcake recipe.<\/p>\n

“These cookies are very soft because of the fresh strawberries,” shares Tonna Canfield<\/a><\/strong> (Ashland, KY<\/a><\/strong>). “The flavor of those strawberries is what makes them so delicious and they just melt in your mouth.” <\/p>\n

Tonna’s Strawberry Cookies<\/a><\/strong> are unusual and delicious. Thanks to the addition of fresh strawberries they’re nice and moist with tons of flavor. I really liked the chip combinations in the cookie. Strawberries and milk chocolate are a great combination. The white chocolate chips add a sweet creaminess to the cookie. Definitely yummy.<\/p>\n

With Memorial Day in a few weeks, consider trying Brenda Nance’s<\/a><\/strong> (Lexington, NC<\/a><\/strong>) Strawberry and Chocolate Brownie Trifle<\/a><\/strong> at your cookout. “People will think you spent a lot more time making [this] than you did,” jokes Brenda.<\/p>\n

A trifle is always great, but the cream layer makes this dessert exceptional. Mascarpone is decadent, and adding balsamic takes it to a next level. I love the chocolate, strawberry, and balsamic flavors, it’s a great combination! It’s impressive to present and easy to make. It transports easily too if you have to take a dessert with you.<\/p>\n
