As a kid, an ice cream cone or sundae was always a summertime treat. My go to was a sugar cone, vanilla ice cream, and sprinkles. It’s simple, but always put a smile on my face.<\/p>\n

As I got older my palate changed. While I still love my vanilla ice cream, I’ve become a bit more adventurous. I’m having friends over for dessert this weekend and wanted to do something fun. I thought of an adult ice cream social. No ordinary ice cream here, it’ll be all unusual flavors. <\/p>\n

We all know corn on the cob is a summertime staple… but corn flavored ice cream? On a trip to Asheville, North Carolina, Karen Petree<\/a><\/strong> (Kansas City, MO<\/a><\/strong>) tried a Sweet Corn Ice Cream<\/a><\/strong> and knew she had to come up with her own recipe. “After experimenting with a variety of recipes” Karen created a keeper.<\/p>\n

Super creamy, this ice cream is unlike anything I’ve ever had. You taste the sweetness from the corn, but the corn flavor is subtle. Strange, I know, but so good! Karen uses frozen corn in her recipe, but I’d substitute with fresh corn since it’s in season. It will only intensify the sweetness.<\/p>\n

I was very intrigued by Robin Dupree’s<\/a><\/strong> (Coldspring, TX<\/a><\/strong>) Red Wine Ice Cream with Walnuts and Cherries<\/a><\/strong>. I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to like it I didn’t like it. I loved it!<\/p>\n

The spices set the tone for this creamy treat. Individually the flavors aren’t special but combined they’re magical. Fresh cherries and walnuts add sweetness to balance out the spices. The ice cream is unique, unusual and great for adults.<\/p>\n

“My husband and I created this Pineapple Habanero Ice Cream<\/a><\/strong>Pineapple Habanero Ice Cream recipe together after buying the new ice cream maker,” explains Naomi Nakashima<\/a><\/strong> (El Paso, TX<\/a><\/strong>). “He loves unique and non-traditional flavor combinations.”<\/p>\n

Naomi’s experiment is phenomenal! It’s cool and creamy with bits of pineapple. Then, around the second bite you get the heat from the habanero. It’s an unusual but great flavor combination. If you like a bit of heat, this will be a hit this summer. I’d recommend making extra glaze for serving. It’s so yummy! <\/p>\n

You may read the name of Dan Rinaldi’s<\/a><\/strong> Wicked Hot Chocolate Ice Cream<\/a><\/strong> and think it’s just a chocolate ice cream recipe and everyone in New England says wicked. Well, you wouldn’t be more wrong.<\/p>\n

What makes Dan’s recipe so special is his ingredients. Cayenne pepper and ancho chile powder are added for an extra kick. It adds a slight heat, but it’s not overpowering. And, I think, it actually intensifies the flavor of the chocolate. Almonds add a bit of crunch to this creamy ice cream. Dan’s recipe is seriously a wickedly good chocolate lovers dream.<\/p>\n
