Rice Krispie Treats are always a crowd favorite and these would be perfect for a BBQ.<\/p>\n<h3>What You&#8217;ll Need<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>9 c Rice Krispie Treat Cereal, in a pinch use regular Rice Krispies (we did)<\/li>\n<li>15 oz. marshmallows<\/li>\n<li>6 tbsp butter<\/li>\n<li>Candy melts &#8211; white, blue and red; 2 oz. or 1\/2 c each color<\/li>\n<li>Food coloring &#8211; red, blue and white (if you can find white)<\/li>\n<li>Lollipop sticks<\/li>\n<li>Wax or parchment paper<\/li>\n<li>Extra butter for greasing paper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>How To Make the Pinwheels<\/h3>\n<p>1. Line 9&#215;13 baking dish with buttered parchment or wax paper.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>2. Add 5 oz marshmallows, 2 tbsp butter, and 1\/2 cup of red candy melts to a large microwave safe bowl.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>3. Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir. If not melted, microwave for another 30 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>4. Once melted, stir in red food coloring until the desired color. You want the color to be vibrant.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>5. Add Rice Krispies and stir until completely coated.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>6. Spread red Rice Krispies into the lined baking dish.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>7. Repeat the melting marshmallow and candy melts process for the white layer. If you can&#8217;t find white food coloring, add a few extra candy melts to brighten the white color.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>8. Place the white layer of Rice Krispies into the baking dish over the red layer.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>9. Repeat steps 2 &#8211; 5 with the blue candies and food coloring.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>10. Press down on the blue layer to compress the three layers together.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>11. Remove Rice Krispies from the pan. Using a rolling pin, spread the treats out roughly an inch beyond the paper.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>12. Starting on the shorter side, roll up the treats to form a pinwheel.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>13. Cut into slices.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>14. The finished product.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>15. We turned them into lollipops like Beth, by melting a bit of white candy melts. Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted chocolate and stick into the Rice Krispie treat.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>The Results: A Pinterest Pass!<\/h3>\n<p>While the pinwheels may not be perfect, they are tasty. They&#8217;re a festive way to show your patriotic spirit at any party. <\/p>\n<h3>Test Kitchen Tips<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure to butter your hands when working with the treats&#8230; they&#8217;re pretty sticky. Even if you&#8217;re using gloves, butter those.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>As mentioned in the instructions, we couldn&#8217;t easily find white food coloring. We added a few more white candy melts to the white layer and felt like it was still vibrant enough.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Make sure to roll the pinwheel tight to keep the cereal layers from separating.
