Make a Special Recipe for Your Loved One This Valentine’s Day

Crepe's for Valentine's Day by Freda

Whether it be a special homemade treat at the holidays or their favorite cake for a birthday, I show the ones I love them through food. It’s no different for Valentine’s Day. I thought I’d share some great menu ideas for a special meal at home.

Start the day with Freda Gable’s Crepes for Valentine’s Day. Fruity, fresh, fluffy, light, and delicate, I could go on and on about how good these are.

“This is a favorite of mine and I top mine with whipped cream or powdered sugar, or both; even ice cream or sour cream,” shares Freda. “Sometimes I will even use a fruit flavored yogurt. These are sooo good.”

The Kitchen Crew tried them with whipped cream and vanilla yogurt with a bit of cherry pie filling on top too. Before we knew it, the crepes were gone. Topping with the red cherries really makes this festive.

Skip overpriced restaurants this year and make a special meal at home. Two dinner recipes I love are Amy Herald’s (Detroit, MI) Steak de Burgo for Two and George Levinthal’s (Goleta, CA) Seared Scallops & Shrimp Over Angel Hair Pasta.

Steak de Burgo is very popular in the midwest. Typically, filet mignon is topped with butter, garlic, and herbs like basil, thyme, and oregano. A sauce is created with similar ingredients that’s drizzled over top. Amy puts her own delicious twist on this restaurant quality recipe.

“I absolutely love Steak de Burgo but we don’t have it very often because of the cost of tenderloin steaks,” says Amy. “This is an elegant dish which is still quite simple to make!”

Simple ingredients come together so nicely, this would impress anyone. The toppings on this are really what makes this special. The mushrooms and shaved Parmesan cheese are so good but the fresh basil pulls it all together. Delish!

“My wife loves shrimp and scallops and I wanted to find a way to make it for her and make it fairly quick and easy,” explains George. “It’s an elegant, but simple dish for a dinner party or for just the two of us.”

If you’re looking for a delicious, fairly simple seared scallops and shrimp recipe look no further. The sauce that accompanies the seafood is divine. As the butter, wine, and shallots cook down, it almost becomes creamy. The scallops and shrimp are cooked perfectly. Overall, this is delicious and a very special dinner.

Desserts more your love language? End the day with Renae McVay’s (New Albany, MS) Cherry-berry Cake.

“Created by me when looking for a sweet surprise for my sweetheart on Valentine’s Day,” reveals Renae. The frosting on this cake is amazing. It’s a fluffy cream cheese icing with pecans folded in. The perfect complement to the super easy and moist strawberry cherry cake. This is rich, so a small piece will satisfy you.

A box of chocolates is a popular Valentine’s Day gift. This year, make your own and follow Anthony Nicometi Jr.’s (Cheektowaga, NY) Valentine’s Day Orange Chocolate Creams recipe. Your valentine is going to love these on Valentine’s Day or any of the other 364 days.

This treat tastes (and looks) like it came from an expensive candy store, but they’re pretty easy to make at home. The orange flavor is just right – not overpowering. But as Anthony suggests, “Adjust the oil/extracts and food colorings and the options are endless.” The Crew and I couldn’t get enough of these.

If you’re preparing a meal for your sweetie or for a single friend to make them feel special, try one of these delicious recipes for Valentine’s Day. Happy Pinching!
