16 oz green split peas
Rinse peas,remove stones and debris. Melt buter in large dutch oven over medium heat.Saute onion,celery,garlic and carrots.
Add ham hocks,peas and 9cups of water,bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low,cover pot and simmer soup for 1hr.20 minetes till ham and vegetables are tender. Stir often.
Remove ham from pot,cut and dice meat from bones,add to soup.Season with salt and pepper to taste.
