Split Pea & Ham Soup

Ingredients

2 large
ham hock, smoked
1 medium
onion diced
1 1/2 c
carrots, chopped
1 clove
garlic minced
1 c
celery diced
2 Tbsp
butter
1 pkg
16 oz green split peas
9 c
water

Step-By-Step

1Rinse peas,remove stones and debris. Melt buter in large dutch oven over medium heat.Saute onion,celery,garlic and carrots.

2Add ham hocks,peas and 9cups of water,bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low,cover pot and simmer soup for 1hr.20 minetes till ham and vegetables are tender. Stir often.

3Remove ham from pot,cut and dice meat from bones,add to soup.Season with salt and pepper to taste.
