Ingredients For split pea plus soup

1 cchopped onions

2medium carrots, thinly diced

1/2 cfinely chopped celery
-
2 cloveminced garlic
-
1 cfinely chopped kale
-
1 cdiced potatoes
-
1-8 oz. canpumpkin puree
-
2 Tbspolive oil
-
1/4 lbdiced ham
-
1/2 tspdried parsley
-
1 tspsalt or accent
-
3/4 tspblack pepper
-
1/4 tspred pepper flakes (opt.)

1bay leaf
-
1 lbdried split green peas
-
8 cwater or chicken broth
-
(i used a combination or water, goya chicken bouillon packets, and vegetable flavor enhancer to make 8 cups of flavored broth.)
How To Make split pea plus soup

1In a large pot, sauté onions, garlic, celery and carrots in olive oil until the vegetables start to soften. Add potatoes and kale and cook a little longer.

2Rinse and sort through the split peas.

3Add the peas and the remainder of the ingredients, except the pumpkin. Bring to a boil.

4Turn down the heat and simmer for about an hour. Stir in the pumpkin and continue simmering for another hour to an hour an a half until it gets as thick as you like it.

5Stir frequently while cooking so it doesn't stick or burn on the bottom.
