This is a really great Garam Masala spice mix that my cook gave me when I lived in India. It's wonderful when making Indian food.

Ingredients For garam masala (indian spice mix)

  • 1 Tbsp
    black pepper, ground
  • 1 Tbsp
    cardamom, ground
  • 1 Tbsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp
    cloves, ground -- only a teaspoon
  • 1 Tbsp
    coriander,
  • 1 Tbsp
    cumin, ground
  • 1 Tbsp
    fennel seeds, ground
  • 1 Tbsp
    ginger, ground
  • 1 Tbsp
    nutmeg, ground

How To Make garam masala (indian spice mix)

    Mix all spices together in a small bowl Transfer to an airtight bottle/container for storage Store in a cool dark place Use in curries, dal, chickpea/choly dishes...any Indian recipe that calls for Garam Masala

    If you don't have ground spices, you can put everything into a coffee grinder or break everything down with a mortar and pestal.

    REMINDER...if you use a coffee grinder, don't use the one you grind your coffee with as you will not want to use it to grind coffee again; unless you like Garam Masala flavored coffee.
