Paulette's Potato Soup

Last night after dinner my hubby made a request for his dinner tonight - he wanted my potato soup. I just finished making it and it tastes so good. I am trying to wait until he gets in to have a bowl. I have made this so long that I have forgotten where I got the recipe. I guess that it doesn't really matter I always adapt it to our tastes anyway.

vegetable oil
thinly sliced onion
cloves garlic minced
1 lb
potatoes, pared, and diced
1 c
diced turnip
2 can(s)
chicken broth
1 tsp
celery seed
salt to taste
1/4 tsp
black pepper
1 1/2 c
light cream
1/2 c
1 tsp
1 tsp
garlic powder

Directions Step-By-Step

In medium saucepan heat butter and oil until butter is melted. Add onion and garlic and cook until onion is soft about 5-7 minutes. Add pototoes,turnip, chicken broth and seasonings.
Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and cover and let simmer 25-30 minutes.
In blender container process potatoes and turnips in batches until pureed. Return to saucepan, stir in cream and milk and cook about 5 minutes. You will have to watch this closely because it may scorch easily. I usually take out what I think that we will eat at one time and heat in microwave. You may add a little more milk if soup becomes too thick.
