I got some of my grandmother's cookbooks when she passed, and this recipe was in one. I've been making this chili for about 10 years. When tailgating, everyone loved it, they said it was seasoned just right.

Ingredients For chili

  • 2 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1
    onion, chopped
  • 2 1/2 lbs
    ground beef or turkey
  • 1 Tbsp
    salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    black pepper
  • 3 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 3 can
    pinto beans
  • 1 can
    diced tomatoes
  • 2 can
    tomatoe sauce
  • 1 c
    ketchup
  • 3
    bay leaves
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • 2 c
    beer or water
  • 2 Tbsp
    cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 tsp
    rubbed thyme
  • 1 tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp
    basil leaves

How To Make chili

  • 1
    Heat vegetable oil, add chopped onion and cook until transparent. Stir in meat and brown, drain. Add other ingredients and simmer for 1 hour. Top with cheese, sour cream and scallions. Freezes well.
