Ingredients For amish cabbage casserole

  • 1 md
    green cabbage, cut into thin wedges
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    milk
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 c
    cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 c
    mayonnaise
  • 3 Tbsp
    chili sauce
  • 1/2 c
    onion, chopped
  • 1/2 c
    green bell pepper, finely chopped

How To Make amish cabbage casserole

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

    Combine cabbage wedges & water in a large saucepan; cover & cook over medium heat 15 minutes. Drain well & place cabbage wedges in a 12 x 8 x 2" baking dish.

    Melt butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat; add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook over low heat 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened & bubbly. Stir in the salt & pepper. Pour mixture over cabbage & bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.

    Combine cheese, mayonnaise, chili sauce, onion & green bell pepper; stir well & spread over cabbage. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 20 minutes.
