papa's cure-all vegetable stew

When I was young & sick my PaPa would fix this stew for me. I swore it would cure everything from sore throat to colds to flu and more. He would even make extra to freeze so he would have it on hand just for me. I now make it for my boys, and my oldest swears it cures his ailments too. I believe!

Ingredients For papa's cure-all vegetable stew

  • 2 lb
    chuck roast cubed
  • 1/4 c
    vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp
    kitchen bouquet seasoning
  • water, to cover meat
  • 1 lg
    can v-8 juice
  • 1 lg
    can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 tsp
    celery seed
  • 1 tsp
    parsley flakes
  • 1/4 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp
    onion powder
  • 1 can
    each: corn, green beans, lima beans, peas, carrots & potatoes (drained)
  • salt & pepper to taste

How To Make papa's cure-all vegetable stew

    Pour vegetable oil in large stock pan. Add cubed chuck roast and brown over medium heat. When browned, add kitchen bouquet and stir thoroughly. Add just enough water to cover meat and boil slowly for 2 hours, add more water as needed.

    When meat is tender, add all remaining ingredients. Cook together for 30 min on medium-high while stirring often; then 1 1/2 more hours on low-medium heat.
